Why we built it
Spaceship is a modern registrar with a clean public API, and we use it ourselves for part of our domain portfolio. When we went looking for a WHMCS module, we found community projects that covered the basics — but the feature every serious reseller actually needs, TLD pricing synchronisation, was locked behind a paid “premium” tier, and the code needed a serious security and correctness review before we would let it near a production billing system.
So we did what we always do: we audited every line, fixed what was broken, built the missing pieces ourselves, and ran it on our own portal first. Then we decided the result was worth more in the open than on our disks alone.
What the module does
- Full domain lifecycle — register, renew and transfer domains directly from WHMCS orders.
- Reliable results, not optimistic ones — Spaceship processes registrations asynchronously; the module polls each operation to completion, so WHMCS records what actually happened.
- Nameservers, contacts and locks — full management from the client area, including child nameservers and EPP code retrieval.
- DNS and ID protection — record management for domains on Spaceship nameservers, and WHOIS privacy toggles that report their real status.
- TLD Pricing Sync — free — import your cost prices per extension into WHMCS Domain Pricing and apply your own margins, fed by a price file you review and control.
- Premium-domain protection — premium names are never offered at standard TLD prices by mistake.
- Hardened by production use — API credentials are masked in every log path, rate limits are respected through built-in caching, and the module talks to exactly one host: the official Spaceship API.
What makes this build different
This is not a wrapper we assembled for marketing. Before deploying it on our own portal we audited the original open-source code line by line and fixed six real defects — including availability checks that silently returned no results, privacy status that always displayed as disabled, and error logging that wrote API credentials into the module log. All of those fixes, plus the pricing sync that others charge for, are in the public repository under the MIT licence. Every improvement we make for our own infrastructure will be pushed to the same repository.
